Dr. Moshe Lewis needs vote for new show about pain management on Oprah Network.

check out Dr. Moshe Lewis's short video audition on Oprah Winfrey's Network website. He is trying to get the word out to our families and all members of the community that still have no idea what it is like to live a life in chronic pain and are still being judged and misunderstood for our use of pain medication. Please listen to his video and see for yourself what a great show this would be as he provides the much needed information to the public so they can start feeling and expressing the empathy we need for all to understand that we are not drug addicts by choice, but we are just trying to cope with the loss of our past active lives through pain management that keeps us functioning as much as possible as wives, husband, mothers, fathers, and active members of the community instead of choosing a life of immobility and depression. Just Google "Oprah Winfrey Network Moshe Lewis" and it will bring you right to his video. Please vote and maybe even comment and help him help us.

Thanks a lot for your time and patience.
Medication Tolerance

I have been suffering from chronic pancreatitis for close to 8 years now. Anyone who has any experience with this or acute pancreatitis knows how terrible the pain can get. I am now at the stage of being chroncally ill. This terrible disease brings with it other conditions that of course tend to only complicate matters. I am now also at the stage of suffering from malabsorption. I cannot stop losing weight. My body can't absorb the nutrients from the food that I eat. In a matter of a few years, I have gone from 215 lbs, down to 130 lbs. Sucks, don't it! The reason for tis post though, is that I find myself again discussing with my doctor the fact that we may need to again change or strengthen my pain medication regimen. I am now taking 30mg tablets of Oxycodone 5 times a day. Yes, I did say 150 mg daily. And it is now not enough. The doctor has now mentioned Methadone
I am scared to death of Methadone! I am open to suggestions at this point. Does anyone have any???

Forum: Threads For All Advice, Experiences, etc. For Medications

Insurance company

I broke my back some 5 years ago. I was on the job when it happened. I have been on pain meds since that time and now the insurance company wants to back out of the contract where they agreed to pay for my medical regarding the injury. They are trying to use the point of "addicition" as the excuse. Don't they know how I would love to not be taking these meds and that I would love to be able to work and not live at the poverty level I am now because of the accident? Don't they know the depression I battle because of being in pain all of the time? From living hand to mouth? The worsening of my physical health because I am all but sedentary(sp?)? Talk about causing more depression!!! What's a person to do????

Forum: Threads For Depression, Anxiety, Emotional, Mental, etc.

my little girls constant pain

I am new to the board. I found it looking for help for my little girl. She is 11 years old and inherited pancreatitis from me and my side of the family. for the past two years she has lived in hell. She missed her 5th grade school year, and has now missed 3 months of her 6th grade year. She had her first attack when she was 5. Last year we went to Charleston, SC to the Medical University of South Carolina to see the world's best pancreas doctor, Peter Cotton. He performed an ERCP and discovered she not only has pancreatitis, but has pancreas divisium which means she has no opening to her main duct. Her pancreas has been draining through a tiny duct called the remedial duct (the back up duct in a regular pancreas). He performed a sphincterotomy and she got better. Then three months ago she began having pain in the upper gastric region. All the test came back she was not having a pancreas attack. She kept complaining and refusing to eat because it hurt worse. Her GI told me to take her to a shrink, because she was not having an attack. I contacted Dr. Cotton who said her remedial duct is most likely closing up again. He said you can't tell from MRI or blood test, so he set her up for another ERCP on April 14. That is the soonest he can do it. Meanwhile, my child spends her days and nights in a recliner constantly crying. Her GI will not give her anything stronger than Ultram and still treats her like it's all in her head. I am so angry I could literally hurt this woman. I've recently have been reading about Sphincter of Oodi., and wondered if any of you had this and if your symptoms are the same as my child's. She has constant upper gastric pain, stays nauseous but doesn't throw up and hurts worse after eating. I know chronic pancreatitis hurts terribly, I have it too. I too have daily pain, but I take methadone for my pain. Her GI says she hasn't had enough attacks to have daily pain. Can anyone relate. My little girl is slowly going crazy, and her dad and I right along with her. She and I don't sleep at night, and nap maybe an hour or two in the day. Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.

Forum: Threads for Chronic Pain

social pressure at home

Hello fellow listers. First I want to say how glad I am to have found this website as I am in great need of some support these days. The social pressure is coming at me in the form of my spouse. I fell five years ago and broke my back and damaged nerves at the L- 3,4, and 5 levels. I was told 3 months after my accident that I had developed a chronic pain problem and so have been on a regiment of narcotics since that time. A couple of days ago, after all this time, my husband who has been my most supportive person since the accident is coming unglued about the meds that I take and I must add that he is doing it hatefully so. It makes me wonder if he isn't getting some "coaching" somewhere. It would have to be from the internet because he doesn't have any friends or associate with anyone other than those in chatrooms, forums, and the like. My feelings are really hurt and I am wondering what it is that has changed. What would make him take such a turn? I am so hurt that I can't even talk to him about it yet. I must admit that I am somewhat of a hot head and have to make sure that I calm down before have a discussion regarding something that I am hurt over or disagree with. I am not that way over just any little thing but something like this that really affects my life tends to upset me. I currently take methadone 10mg three times daily (it is cheaper than morphine) and percocet 10/325 up to four times a day for break through pain. I am just heart broken about all of this. I can't do this alone and now with my husband feeling it necessary to be hateful about it I don't know what to do. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions are more than appreciated.

Forum: Threads For All Social issues Post Here

Chronic Pancreatitis Pain Sufferer

Hello. I have been suffering from an ever worsening condition of chronic pancreatitis. The very first time I had any problem whatsoever with pancreatitis was 9 years ago starting with repeated bouts of acute pancreatitis, mostly due to an inherited condition as well as a extreme persistant high level of triglycerides. I am now at present in constant severe chronic pain and have been unable to work because of it. Since August of 2008 I have been collecting Social Security disability benefits. Needless to say, the progression of my disease and constant worsening of my pain has had disasterous effects on my personal life. After being married for 19 years, I now find myself divorced for the past 3 months after being seperated for 6 months prior. I woud just like to talk to others that have similiar circumstances as I do. Feel free to reply with anything.

Forum: Threads for Chronic Pain

I am suffering chronic pain and I need meds for this. As I was surfing the net searching for pain meds, this PhoneConsultation.com came across. I have found out that this site is face to face doctor visit. They will give script together with 2 refills when you have consultation to them. They are serving several states also than they used to. I think this is okay but I want to know if anyone out there knows about this. I need some info of this website and advice also, it will be highly appreciated.

I need help in finding a doctor here in cleveland ohio that is not scared to write for pain meds.I suffer from fibromyalgia and 3 ruptured disc from having my 10 month old.I have 3 kids my youngest being 10 months old and it takes a toll on me everyday picking him up.I work and have wonderful insurance and have seen some doctors here but they are only willing to give me tramadol which does nothing for the pain and lyrica which makes me so dizzy and drunk feeling to where I am scared to even pick my baby up and it doesnt help the fibro pain at all or the back pain. Before moving here I lived in TN and went to a pain clinic where they gave me meds that really worked for my pain.I was given Oxy 80mg and roxicodone 30mg and that combo really really worked well for me.All I am asking is if anyone is in the cleveland ohio area and knows of a doctor who will treat me with the medical records that i have could you please let me know? thanks

Forum: Threads For All Advice, Experiences, etc. For Medications

psychology and pain

I'm am award-winning writer researching for an article on the connection between pain and certain psychological tendencies, such as Stoicism (denying pain and all emotions); Catastrophism (always expecting the worst); Excessive Optimism (wishful thinking); Rigidity/Inflexibility; and People-Pleasing (needing to be liked by everyone). Have you any experience in recognizing any of these traits in yourself, and then addressing them to help manage pain? If so, I'd love to find out how this is working or not working for you, and what, exactly you are doing. Thanks!
Forum: Threads For Depression, Anxiety, Emotional, Mental, etc.
